"I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive." ~Gilda Radner
This company was created because of our deep love for animals and our commitment to our and your best friends. Established in 2003, our bakery honors my best friend Vinny who passed away at age 20 after living a happy, healthy and spoiled rotten life. Vinny was adopted at 6 weeks of age mothered by a Silkie Terrier and fathered by a "cad down the road" according to the farmers we got him from. He was my first kid, followed by 7 of the human variety. Vinny never got sick, his only trip to the vet was for his shots and for neutering, which he never quite realized had happened. Even into his teens he was quite the ladies man. We credit his good health and longevity to his diet, one that has sustained our many other dogs who have come our way through rescue, and/or our inability to follow through with the sentence "it's only temporary". Dog's deserve to taste real food, to smell real food, and to digest pure organic healthy treats that are not filled with cancer causing chemicals and allergy causing compounds.
In 2003, the year I had to say goodbye to my dear friend, I decided to embark on a little business venture for my special needs children, to learn about baking and money and customer service. They might not be able to read and write but they would be able to go out in the world and be around all the dogs they love and bond with so much. Thus, My Best Friend's Biscuits started on Saturday mornings in our kitchen for the Pier Street Market on Sundays. Over the years we have come up with some more recipes and made many friends. Emma is a well known face at the market and through Vinny's legacy she has developed into a social, happy, skilled young lady. From providing first treats to new best friends to providing the final birthday cake for an old best friend, our company has had the honor of serving fellow animal lovers in this community and making their best friends healthier and happier in the process. We miss you Vin', along with all the others who have left us. Here's hoping there are NO milk bones at the rainbow bridge!
Neither rain nor hail nor sleet nor snow nor heat of day nor dark of night, nor the kitchen cupboard closed real tight, neither glove compartment, zippered pocket, or anywhere you decide to lock it, no counter too high, no closed fridge door, no sneaky place you decide to store….. shall keep your best friend from the swift completion of his appointed rounds to find the treats made just for hounds...quite possibly helping himself when you’re not looking!
